The people of Misaje, Cameroon find their worth in the translated Word of God

Imagine if God didn’t speak your language—if there were a language barrier keeping you from drawing close to Him. Would He seem unapproachable? Would He feel like your Heavenly Father? Would you believe He sent His Son to die for you?

This is how the Misaje people of Cameroon have felt, having no Scripture translated in their mother tongue. But thanks to God’s providing generous partners like you, the new Misaje Training Center is changing that. Through your support, Wycliffe Associates has provided funding and volunteers to establish the center, which will be a training hub for translators of six languages in the region. Cameroonians made bricks by hand, and, most recently, our volunteers installed solar power equipment and a computer network to expedite translation efforts.

Pastor Emmanuel, a local who has helped lead the training, sees deep meaning in the work at hand. “Translated Scriptures will be a powerful means of liberation,” he said. “The people will not feel they are second rate because they don’t have a ‘holy language.’ When Jesus speaks to them in their mother tongue, they will say, ‘Wow, we are important! ’ ”
