Have you ever been to Texas? If so, you probably realize that Texas is a world
different than the rest of the USA. They have cowboy churches, rodeo ministries,
and numerous other Christian variations on ranching themes. Despite the
implication in the subject line of this email, I am not actually aware of any
attempts to translate the Bible into Texan. But having lived in Texas for four
years during college, I would not be surprised if such a movement started!
When I talk about advancing Bible translation in Texas, I’m actually referring to the support that Wycliffe Associates provides to the International Linguistics Center in suburban Dallas. No doubt many of you have never had the opportunity to visit the SIL Center in Duncanville, Texas. The Center resembles a small university campus. It includes student dormitories, classrooms, a library, a dining hall, and administrative offices. Wycliffe Associates built many of these buildings during the past two decades. In recent years, our technical role has shifted from campus construction to maintenance and support for the campus. We also have volunteers serving in a broad range of administrative support roles. As we look ahead to the coming winter season, when "snowbirds" begin heading
south to more temperate climes, we have a number of key support roles in Texas
that we'd like you to consider: For more information on these specific needs and other service opportunities at the SIL Center in Duncanville, Texas, call George Carnevale at 972-708-7425. Or email George at: george_carnevale@sil.org. A winter in Texas might be just the kind of cross-cultural experience you've been looking for! Bruce Smith,
