Recently I tried to explain to a friend of mine that “Wycliffe” includes dozens
of organizations partnering together to advance Bible translation. He replied,
“All of you Wycliffe people look the same to me!”
Wycliffe UK (United Kingdom) is the second-largest mission organization in the world focused on Bible translation. Wycliffe Associates (US) has partnered with Wycliffe UK on many previous occasions to support their mobilization of UK Christians. Another opportunity to serve them has just come to us. Wycliffe UK needs to remodel the largest building on their center in Horsleys Green in order to create twenty-nine guestrooms for their staff, candidates, and volunteers. This project is vital for Wycliffe UK to increase their training capacity for Vision 2025 (beginning new translations in the remaining languages still needing one by the year 2025). They have asked us to supervise this renovation project and to invite US volunteers to work with their local team. The timing for this project is January through March 2008. Because of the scope of this work, we estimate that we will need to maintain a workforce of between 20-25 volunteers on site. To encourage volunteers, Wycliffe UK is offering FREE ROOM AND BOARD to everyone who serves! The team will need plumbers, electricians, welders, sheet rock finishers, carpenters, framers, and general handymen. This is not just a project for men. Women are invited as well. If you have a construction skill, or if you would like to learn one—we will train you! If you have other talents, there are numerous other opportunities for service at the Wycliffe UK center. While you are in the UK, there will be opportunities to see nearby historic sites, visit London, and build friendships with UK families who are part of the Bible translation team.
