We’ve never had all new linens before!" exclaimed a delegate to the Wycliffe International and SIL International triennial meetings in Waxhaw, North Carolina, this past June. He had just received a gift of crisp, beautiful sheets and towels for his family from the Wycliffe Associates linen ministry.
Several months ago, Wycliffe Associates, under the dedicated leadership of Sue Crabtree, decided to spend almost $22,000 to supply more than 500 international delegates from 70 countries with linens. For most of us who live in the United States, having plenty of sheets and towels is common. For many who live in Bible translation locations, having linens is a big luxury! The delegates were grateful and very excited!
"You mean there is a top AND a bottom sheet in here?" one asked in amazement.
Another man squatted down at the linen table, pulled out a laptop, and wrote an e-mail to his wife. He wanted to know her choice of colors and sizes. "With an opportunity like this, I don’t want to make a mistake," he said smiling broadly.
God teaches us that in giving we receive. The fruit of generosity is not loss but rather inexplicable and shared joy!
