9/7/2011: Acute Need for Teachers

Bookmark and Share

Who is the best Bible translator to teach primary school?

This is probably not a question your local school district would ask. But unfortunately, due to a shortage of teachers for missionary kids in Eurasia, this is the question the translation teams have had to ask―and answer.

A child’s education is, naturally, a high-priority for foreign missionaries. So, as the school year begins, Bible translation is being forced to wait until teachers can be recruited.

One of these vacancies is due to a pregnancy, while the other is simply due to a shortfall in the number of teachers committed. Each of these schools is located in the capital city of their respective nations, and serves the educational needs of children in the international community.

If we can recruit teachers for any portion of this school year, we would provide a huge service to the translation teams in these locations as well as to the mission community as a whole.

Here is an excerpt from a recent email I received:

"The situation is dire. You know the statistics on families that leave the field because of the lack of adequate schools, teachers, and educational opportunities for their children. Is there any way in which Wycliffe Associates could help in creating an all-out effort to recruit qualified teachers to serve in Central Asia?”

So, this is that effort. We need your help. With school just starting all across the U.S., we know that most teachers are already committed.

But we also know that God wants His Word to reach those still without, and these teaching needs are not a surprise to Him.

Perhaps you, or someone you know, have teaching experience and are looking for a way to use that experience to impact eternity. If so, just reply to web@wycliffeassociates.org or phone Jennifer Cunneen toll-free at 1-800-THE WORD (800-843-9673).

Jennifer will be glad to give you specific details about these locations and teaching opportunities.

YOU may be the answer to the prayers of these families!
