Detail:
An upper grade science teacher is needed in Nampula, Mozambique to teach science in grades 5-9. Rapale International School is a Christian school that is building new school facilities, and desiring to extend their grades from 1 - 10 to grade 12. The first phase of the new facilities will include 9 classrooms and ablutions that will be functional by September 2012.
There are currently 35 students enrolled this academic year. The plan is to increase to 65-75 students as of September 2012. The students come from a mixture of cultures here in Mozambique. There is a grade 5 class (under 10 students), a grade 6 & 7 class (9 students total), a grade 8 & 9 class (4 students total), and 3 or 4 high school seniors that need tutoring help with their correspondence classes in physics, chemistry, and biology. Students mostly come from missionary families and Christian Zimbabwe families that are in Mozambique working. They all are a really good bunch of kids!
There are 6 full time staff and additional volunteer staff. The staff comes from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the US.
The curriculum used is a mixture of American and British curricula. Classes are in English. Some classes are combined, depending on the number of students and teachers available.
The school year is from September to July with 10 weeks of school break during the school year.
Sports: swimming, basketball, soccer, baseball at present. All sport disciplines in the future.
Portuguese language is spoken in Mozambique. It is not necessary for teaching but the individual will be expected to gain some level in Portuguese while here simply to facilitate life.
